Here is a timeline on Alfred Nobel Life
- 1833- Born in Stockholm, Sweden
- 1850- Alfred moved to Paris, and then traveled to Germany and America. He used this time to study.
- 1856- The Nobel family factory goes bankrupt. Alfred began working with nitroglycerin in order to help his father’s factory
- 1857- At the age of 24, he filed his first patent
- 1863- Alfred applied for patents for his work with nitroglycerin.
- 1864- While working on nitroglycerin with Alfred, his brother was killed. In the same year, he founded Nitroglycerin AB in Stockholm, Sweden.
- 1865- He built the Alfred Nobel & Co. Factory in Krümmel near Hamburg, Germany.
- 1866- He discovered that nitroglycerin became safer with added elements, and the result was dynamite. In the same year, he established the United States Blasting Oil Company in the U.S.
- 1867- He patented his most famous invention, dynamite.
- 1870- He established the Société général pour la fabrication de la dynamite in Paris, France.
- 1873- They opened a dynamite plant. Alfred returned to Europe where he started the first of several factories. They manufactured dynamite.
- 1887- Alfred discovered a new element that could be used for blasting. It was called ballistite.
- 1888- Another of Alfred’s brothers died, but the newspaper accidentally published that it was Alfred and they weren’t kind about him, and said that dynamite killed many people. Alfred wanted to change his legacy.
- 1891- Alfred had a disagreement with the French government and moved to Italy, where he stopped his experimentations.
- 1895- Alfred Nobel made a Will, and he set aside most of his money to establish the Nobel Prizes which would award those who made great discoveries.
- 1896- Alfred Nobel died on December 10 in San Remo, Italy. In his will, he left the majority of his fortune to establish the Nobel Prizes.
- 1957- The synthetic element nobelium was named in his honor.
